Ugh
Email hosting working now
So, last week I signed up for a commercial email host, because I was unsatisfied with GoDaddy’s email services. They seemed pretty competent. I talked with sales, and they sent me a quote, and I purchased it.
Unfortunately, the catch-all email address support was, for some reason, broken. In the control panel I have the option to specify an email address to which all email sent to invalid addresses is forwarded to, a “catch-all” account. But mail, rather than being forwarded, was being bounced. It took a few days and conversations with tech support, but eventually they got it working.
Woo!
New jacket
Woo woo, I got a new jacket. Kickassery indeed. It is some brown suede stuff, with a detachable hood. It has two inner pockets. :) And it’s nice enough that I can wear it to work without looking foolish, unlike my previous jacket, which has now found its way into the donate bin.

Awesome by far.
In the car, on the way to Owego
So I’m in the back seat of the van, on the way to Owego NY. Not a lot is happening. It’s pretty cool to have internet access in the car, but there isn’t a lot to do at 10a on a Saturday. Nobody else is online. Also, my camera’s batteries are dying.
Oh well. I got a couple nice shots of the mountains.
Teaching
So I spent a good 2 hours today teaching a colleague about FMS Analyst.
FMS Analyst is the program I have written for interacting with the FMS that I work with. It’s designed for data collection, but in order to facilitate it it has all sorts of bells and whistles so that the user can focus on the data and not the implementation.
Anyways, it’s still kind of complicated. I’ve written a HOWTO for a specific scenario in addition to the user’s manual, and we went over the HOWTO piece by piece until the guy understood what was going on. It took a while. Not that he’s not a bright guy; FMS Analyst is pretty complicated and he had never worked with it before. He’s read the user’s manual and the HOWTO, but reading the documentation and hands-on experience are two entirely different beasts.
So we got it mostly working, except the FMS crapped out. We were running part two of study one of the KLAS scenario, but we ended up only getting part one data, because it failed to correctly enter in the route restrictions for FUZZY. Also, I think I cleared an error message that needs to be recognized, and so missed one of the key points in the flight. I fixed that problem, anyways.
So FMS Analyst is going pretty well. :)
New monitor
I just got a new monitor. It’s a 22″ Acer LCD, 1680×1050. Awesome!
Also, this makes working from home a hell of a lot easier.

Scripting
Well, I’ve found myself enjoying one of my favorite past-times again, this time on the job. I’m writing some software for analysis of the FMS, and I need a way to automate complex sequence of batches and instructions. The answer? Write a scripting language. So I’m writing a language, but this time I get paid for it. Kickass.
#intj hiatus
Well, I’m taking a week-long hiatus from #intj. I’ve had enough for a little while, and it would do me some good. Also, it will help me pay more attention to Lauren. Having something that is sometimes interesting often enough to constantly check in the background isn’t always a good thing. So, goodbye #intj for now. Probably not permanently, but I’m cutting back.
