Booyah

October 29th, 2007

Yes, it works in RNDIS mode. No, not all of the plugins work. Some of them, like File Sync, don’t respond when you try to change their settings. But the basics, calendar, address book, tasks, seem to sync okay. That’s what I needed.
This is the sound of a happy Robin.

Missing Sync

October 29th, 2007

It looks like I will be able to sync my PDA if I put it in RNDIS mode. Apparently this is the checkbox for “Advanced Networking Functionality” that I’ve spent an hour or so searching for. Nice to finally figure out that it was just a name for RNDIS.

UCITA

October 29th, 2007

For once in my life, I am finding myself actually liking UCITA. For those not in the know, it stands for the “Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act”, and was passed by both Virginia and Marlyand. It makes software licenses, even those click-through ones, into valid legally enforceable contracts. This makes my mock trial a lot easier, as I represent the plaintiff in a DMCA circumvention device lawsuit.
I’m glad I picked the plaintiff in this case. It’s too bad for the defendant, though. This mock trial scenario is a little bit one-sided. It might be a bit more equal if both sides didn’t know a lot about copyright law and the DMCA in specific, but I already knew a good deal and my opponents don’t seem to have known anything prior to getting their scenario.
I feel like a king.

Missing Sync Doesn’t Work

October 28th, 2007

Missing Sync for Windows Mobile doesn’t work on Leopard. Argh. All it does is crash. I’ve upgraded to the most recent version, since it is only the most recent version that will get the Leopard compatibility update in the first place. However, it still sucks.
On the other hand, it’s been about 48 hours since my copy of Leopard arrived. I can handle not having synchronization software for the moment.
For the moment.
It better not take that 90 days given as the maximum. I will go crazy if I don’t get it inside a week.

OSX Leopard: Arrived and Installed

October 26th, 2007

It’s pretty fucking sweet. Time machine is my new hero. My only complaint is that my synchronization software isn’t compatible with Leopard. Sucks. Yet another reason why I need a new PDA, although in this case I need a PalmOS PDA. Oh well, hopefully Mark/Space will get their act together soon enough.

Final memo grades for CS306

October 25th, 2007

This was the legal memorandum, a many-paged document analyzing a fictitious legal scenario in terms of both law and ethics. It took me a while. Grades have been a long time coming. However, I checked WebCT and my grade is in: 100 out of 100. Sweetness. I love getting good grades.

OSX Leopard

October 25th, 2007

It’s on its way. Booyah. Shipped 3am today (October 25), FedEx overnight. I have downloaded and printed the shipping release form so that they will leave it at the door if I am not present. Most excellent.
Excited? Hell yeah.

Headline: CS Professor Hates Students

October 22nd, 2007

You heard me. It’s true. The professor for CS112, the first programming class in the CS curriculum, hates his students. He hates them with a passion. He has just assigned a lab assignment that proves this.

I am a TA for this class, and so I need to do the lab assignments ahead of time so that I know how to help my students. This lab is going to be annoying for me. It is going to be hell for them. It is an assignment in GUI programming, of all things. This lab is harder than the project they just turned in.

I expect it to take me about two hours. Experience tells me that it will take them five times that. Ridiculous.

Oh well. Trial by fire to weed out the weak, apparently. Let’s not have any CS students who didn’t come to college already knowing how to program.
